What is a work-based learning intermediary?

An intermediary serves as a vital bridge between educators and industry, connecting teachers and students with high-quality career mentors and professionals. In the context of work-based learning, intermediaries—such as those at Hawaii Workforce Pipeline—play a key role in identifying and coordinating opportunities including internships, career fairs (both virtual and in-person), teacher externships, industry field trips, and more.
As intermediaries, it is our kuleana—our responsibility—to lead the research, outreach, and logistical coordination required to bring these opportunities to life. This allows our education partners to focus on preparing students and staff to engage meaningfully in their chosen work-based learning activities.
With our support, schools are able to more effectively meet—and often exceed—their workforce development and career readiness goals.
If you're interested in learning how intermediary support can benefit your school or program, we’d love to connect. Please reach out to us at support@hawaiiworkforcepipeline.com.
